Visiting Assistant UN Secretary General and Nutrition Movement Coordinator, Gerda Verburg, has called on Vice-Chairman of National Planning Commission, Dr Min Bahadur Shrestha, in Singha Durbar, on Thursday.

During the meeting, they discussed various issues ranging from nutrition status in Nepal, role of government, private sector, donor agencies, social organizations on promotion of nutrition and the international experience.

On the occasion, Vice-Chairman Dr Shrestha informed Ms Verburg that the donor agencies and the social organizations had significant role in promoting the nutrition status, which is now enhanced remarkably in Nepal. However, government's role on creating awareness on nutrition programme was laudable, he added.

The current 14th national has also given priority to the achievement of sustainable development agenda including the nutrition.

In response, Assistant Secretary General Verburg said Nepal has made tremendous progress in nutrition. For its promotion, the government needs to incorporate non-governmental organizations, civil society and private sectors. The education on nutrition is important for one's health, education and creativity, she reminded.

The meeting was also attended by NPC member Gita Bhakta Joshi and representative from UNICEF.

Verburg is on a three-day visit to Nepal and meeting with the representatives of government, non-government and private sectors. RSS
