KATHMANDU – The government on Monday has formed a three-member talks team under the convenorship of Deputy Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula to initiate negotiations with the agitating groups in the far-western region.
People in the far-western region have been agitating for the past 11 days, protesting against the proposal of ten federal states presented by the UCPN (Maoist).
The team would hold talks with the agitating side and is expected to find a way out to the problem.
The team comprises Minister without Portfolio Barshaman Pun and Irrigation Minister Mahendra Yadav.
Entire life in the region has been adversely affected due to the continuous shutdown held at the call of the people of the far-west region.
Political leaders representing the far-western region and civil society and human rights activists there joined the agitation, expressing their solidarity towards the demand.

Normal life in the far-western region remained crippled for the tenth consecutive day on Monday, following a shutdown or a banda calling for guarantee of integrated far-western region in the new constitution.
All sectors in the region including business activities, transportation and educational sector have been adversely affected due to the prolonged shutdown.
Scores of people joined the demonstrations staged today in course of the banda.
