Congress switches to 11-province model

KATHMANDU – After fielding for 8 provincial model, Nepali Congress has changed its stance during a meeting of the party’s senior leaders in the capital on Sunday.

During the meeting the party has decided to become flexible on 11 province model as proposed by the Maoists and seconded by the UML.

However it has decided to give the authority of naming these states to provinces themselves.

NC President Sushil Koirala, Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel, General Secretary Prakash Man Shrestha and Krishna Sitaula, among other leaders, were present at the meting.

The flexibility shown in its stance comes in wake of potential revolt of party’s indigenous and madheshi lawmakers to cross the floor if the party denied to acknowledge ethnic and regional issues in its federal model. RSS
