Big wigs condemn attacks on media by NEFIN




KATHMANDU- Senior leaders of lead political parties condemned attacks on media and general public by Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) backed band enforcers on Sunday across the country.


Leaders belonging to Maoist, Congress, UML and the Madheshi Front while stating that such atrocities would not fulfill their demands, said such vandalism would instigate ethnic tensions across the nation.
Congress President Sushil Koirala condemned the death threats issued to journalists Rishi Dhamala, and Khila Karki at the Reporters Club Nepal on Sunday by NEFIN General Secretary Aang Kaji Sherpa.


Koirala accused Sherpa of issuing inciting racial and ethnic tensions across the nation and cautioned for not issuing such statements. He called on agitating groups for talks by calling off the band immediately.

Similarly, CPN UML senior leader also condemned attacks on media persons and threats issued by Sherpa to journalists on Sunday. He accused the Maoists of depicting dual character by inciting the protests and by heading the government.


He warned for not holding talks with the agitators until they rolled back their protests. UML had earlier boycotted the three party meeting claiming that the Maoists had been exhibiting dual characteristics by making agreeements during the three party talks on by inciting ethnic groups to protest against such agreements.
