KATHMANDU, MAY 24 – The UCPN (Maoist) has said that Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai will not resign until the disputed issues of constitution drafting is resolved.

The Standing Committee meeting held at party President Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s residence in Lazimpat, Thursday morning concluded with a note to stick to the five-point deal.

It has said that the prime minister will put into papers only after the implementation of the agreement.

The Maoists decision comes at a time when the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML have been pressurising the prime minister to table his resignation.

Emerging from the meeting, Maoist leader Barsha Man Pun said the prime minister will resign prior to the constitution promulgation following consensus on the disputed issues of constitution drafting.

He opined that the NC and the UML have been plotting conspiracy to dissolve the Constituent Assembly as they do not want to come to consensus on any issues.

He said the government proposed to extend the CA term as an alternative to avert any unwanted situation that may surface following the dissolution of the CA.

Pun said the Maoist also wants to promulgate new constitution within May 27 deadline.

Meanwhile, the Maoist is due to hold talks with the NC, UML, Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha and fringe parties today. – ekantipur
