With only one day left to resolve contentions related to disputed issues of constitution writing, second largest party in the Constituent Assembly (CA) Nepali Congress, third largest party CPN (UML) and the hardliner faction of Maoist led by Mohan Baidya Kiran has intensified signature campaign to topple the government.
Though the Baidya faction has initiated this campaign from Friday, it formally held negotiations with NC President Sushil Koirala on Saturday morning and assured to back the move if NC rolls out no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai.
Sources near Koirala informed that Gurnung left Koirala residence with a smile on a face and an assurance to do so in his pocket from Koirala.
Pumpha Bhusal, from the Baidya faction has been leading the signature campaign and at Congress the parliamentary party has issued whip orders to sign the no-confidence motion.
Above hundred NC lawmakers have signed the no-confidence motion. At UML the scene turned ugly when Chairman Jhalnath Khanal directed party lawmakers to sign the motion.
Most of the lawmakers, especially affiliated to the Janjati Caucus and those originating from Madheshi origin, protested against the move and called on party leadership to focus on constitution drafting.RSS
