BEIJING — Two young men have set themselves on fire in the Tibetan city of Lhasa Sunday afternoon, the first self-immolation protests to take place in the heavily guarded capital.
China’s Xinhua news agency says one man died at the scene, and the other is in serious condition.
Sunday’s incident was the first such protest to take place the in tightly guarded city, according to Xinhua, which said police put the flames out “in minutes” and one of the men survived and was in a stable condition.
