CHITWAN – Nepal’s Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Chattraman Singh Gurung has taken rearing responsibility of a two-year old Chepang orphan who lost his three brothers and parents recently due to consumption of poisonous mushroom.
Kantipur daily’s website on Thursday confirmed the news that Gurung had directed NA officials in Chitwan to send the 2 year orphan to him if his guardian agree to it.
The daily reported that the Gurung had called Colonel Jyotendra Mahat in Chitwan to inquire the details of the orphan, Chokman Chepang and send him to Kathmandu in his personal care if his guardians agreed to it.
Following the directives, Col Mahat had visited Chokman’s village Kabilas on the following morning and taken custody of the child with due consent from child’s grandparents, uncle, VDC secretary, local school teachers, principle and the villagers.
“We are ourselves in trouble. Take him, his future will be bright,” Mahat quoted grandfather as saying while stating that the “junior (chokman) seems to be tragically lucky.”
The daily has however hinted that the Gurung will be taking care of the orphan’s educational and other requirements and does not intends to adopt him as his own son. RSS
