KATHMANDU – Politics in Nepal is taking an U-turn for some Nepali Congress leaders after party’s, opposition leaders and even the President are pleased to pick party president Sushil Koirala as Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai’s successor.
Sources in the know-how of the latest political developments at Sheetal Niwas and Koirala residence confirmed the news that the President and some Congress leaders are pushing Koirala to brace up for the hot seat.
During his recent discussion with Sharat Singh Bhandari on Saturday and Mohan Baidya Kiran on Sunday, the President has shown signs of replacing the Prime Minister upon his return from Brazil.
Sources claimed that the President is not pleased with Bhattarai for multiple reasons. Primarily for failing to announce CA elections by forging consensus among political parties, secondly for failing to resolve the issue of introducing budget with opposition parties and thirdly and mostly imperatively for heading to Brazil, leaving the country in a mess.
It is understood that the President is keen on taking actions against the PM, upon his return, if the latter fails to resolve all the above mentioned issues.
The President has picked Koirala as a possible candidate that will be able to garner support from the Maoists, UML, and from within his own party. In Congress itself, Vice President Ram Chandra Paudel and senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has been wrestling for the post for a long time now.
But, as read by the President and justified by some political analysts, they will be silenced if Koirala himself claims the post.
Though Koirala has shown eagerness to take over the hot seat, sources informed that he nevertheless is discussing the offer with his aides.
The aides are reported to have suggested Koirala to vie for the post to silence party’s internal rivalry and garner support from even the Maoists.
Though political equation has changed in the recent times, Maoist supremo earlier had proposed to support Koirala for the post. RSS
