Lead suspect in Babarmahal blast in police custody

KATHMANDU – Police have arrested Raj Kumar Tamang Lama of nearly 40 years of age for his alleged involvement in the terrorist activities in Babarmahal, Kathmandu and different parts in the country.


He was made public through a press conference here today.


A special team deputed from the Regional Police Office, Biratnagar arrested accused Lama from Bhuspate of Lungurupa VDC-2 in Panchthar district on Tuesday night.


Lama, a permanent resident of Hile Chungmang-1 in Dhankuta district, was arrested along with raw materials used for making explosive substances, 15 kgs of sodium carbonate, two mobile phone sets, three ATM cards, combat dress, diaries and minute books.


Acting on a tip-off, the team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhim Bahadur Dahal nabbed Lama.


According to the police, accused Lama alias Devraj Lama, Bishwakranti and Nelson was involved in various political and criminal activities.


Documents seized from Lama show that he was the member of sister organizations of the different parties in the past. He had gone to Canada in 2058 BS and later to Afghanistan where he had worked at the base camp of the Canadian Army, said the police.


Besides, he was the central vice chairman of Nawa Janabadi Morcha led by Ramraja Prasad Singh. He was the candidate for the CA elections (2064 BS) from the Kathmandu Constituency No. 3.


He had formed the Samyukta Jatiya Mukti Morcha on Jeth 15, 2066 BS and had launched the armed agitation since then.


According to information given by the police, Lama was involved in the bomb blast took place at the main gate of the Nepal Oil Corporation Central Office, Babarmahal, killing three people and injuring over five few months ago.


The police investigation shows that Lama was involved in over 24 cases relating to bomb blasts reported from 2066 BS to 2068 BS in different parts in the country.He has admitted all charges labeled against him, said the police. RSS
