PM urges for support to draft stern anti-graft laws

KATHMANDU – Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has said that the government is committed to move ahead by amending laws formulated for prevention of corruption as per time.


Receiving a memorandum submitted by National Campaign, Nepal, against corruption, at the Office of the Prime Minister, Singha Durbar, today, Prime Minister Bhattarai said that he is ready to guarantee good governance in the country by establishing corruption free society.


He said that he is committed to take the demands for implementation as the demands submitted by the organization are relevant and timely and added that there is need of support of all sides to the campaign of making a corruption free country.


A delegation led by chairman of the Campaign, RP Parajuli, stressed that the government should take strong and effective steps to eradicate corruption and the delegation drew the attention of the Prime Minister to address the demands of concerned sides including Civil Society.



The Campaign submitted the memo putting forth various demands including a free, capable and effective mechanism should be formed to carry out investigation into corruption and take action, strong laws should be immediately issued as the existing laws and acts are not sufficient to eradicate corruption and should be made timely, among others.The memo consists of 14-point demands.
