President stand firms: says majority guv cant hold election

KATHMANDU – President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has said that the incumbent majority government is not eligible to hold Constituent Assembly elections.

Speaking at a program held to mark the 100 anniversary of Okhreni High School in Sundarijal, the President said that the CA elections can’t be held without national consensus.

“The government can hold parliamentary elections,” said the President adding, “CA elections can he held only through national consensus.”

Responding to the criticism of the ruling party UCPN Maoist for rejecting ordinances for amending constitution, the President argued that there was no point in endorsing the ordinances as the Election Commission had already ruled out the possibility to hold CA elections.

“Studying law suffices for the government, but I have to read constitution also,” said the President aiming at the criticism of the UCPN Maoist.

Confrontation between the government and the President escalated after the President rejected some ordinances on amending some constitutional provisions related to election. RSS
