KATHMANDU, AUGUST 12 – Bird-flu has been confirmed again at five places in Bhaktapur today. The strain of bird flu virus was found in poultry farms of Sanukaji Tamang of Sipadol, Prakash Bastola of Bageshwari, Yogesh Hada of Jhaukhel, Kanchharam Sukhabhatu of Nangkhel and Rajan Bhanato of Chudal.
With this, the number of the bird-flu inflected farms has reached 47. The chickens in the affected places are being culled today itself. Meanwhile, the government decision to declare Bhaktapur as a bird-flu crisis ridden district is to be held for implementation as of yet.
With the effort to control the bird-flu in Bhaktapur failing to materialise, the government yesterday decided to cull all the chickens in the district.
But with mounting pressure from the poultry farmers, the meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief District Officer Himnath Dawadi decided to continue intense observation for three more days.
Elsewhere, the poultry farmers of Bhaktapur are continuing the agitation with a 7-point demand including providing compensation for the culled chickens and making provision of poultry insurance.
