KATHMANDU, AUG 15 – Former Prime Minister Marich Man Singh Shrestha passed away at Norvic International Hospital, Thapathali on early Thursday morning. He was 72.
Shrestha, who was battling lung cancer, breathed his last at around 3 this morning. He was kept on ventilator support in the hospital.
Ailing Shrestha was airlifted from Medant Medcity Hospital in New Delhi to the Capital on Tuesday night after no significant progress in his health. He was undergoing treatment at the hospital since a month.
Shrestha was the first prime minister of the country from the Newar community.
Meanwhile, Singh’s body has been kept at his residence in Dhapasi for condolence ceremony. His body will be cremated at Pashupati Aryaghat at around 1 this afternoon.
