Prachanda warns of revolt if conflict period cases revived

KATHMANDU, AUGUST 21 – Unified CPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has warned of launching a people’s revolt if cases of the conflict period were revived.

Saying his side was still being despised under various pretexts, he alleged that a conspiracy was in process to obstruct the candidacy of the party’s popular leaders by reviving conflict period cases .

Speaking at a training programme organised by the YCL’s Newa: State Committee in the capital today, Prachanda said a revolt would be initiated if activities to undermine his party continued.

Also speaking at the programme, Unified-Maoist leader Baburam Bhattarai said no one reserved the right to breach the interim constitution in the name of protecting human rights.

He opined that thousands of the party’s cadres would hit the streets if just one cadre was charged with a case.

Speaking at the same programme, Unified-Maoist leader Narayankaji Shrestha said the Maoist were always in favour of protecting nationalism and revolution.
