Govt preparing to take action against black marketers

The government is to take stern action against traders prompting price hike creating artificial shortage of goods.
A meeting of the Inflation Control Monitoring Committee held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers today decided to take effective steps to take action against anyone carrying out the illegal acts.
Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Krishna Hari Banskota, issued directives to the regulatory body to take strong action against the traders creating price hike through black marketing, concealing goods to create artificial shortage,  and hoarding and carteling goods.
The secretary also directed the regulatory body to discourage the middlemen, prevent cartel in transport fare, have the price list mandatorily put up at all the sales counters and have the maximum price mentioned on the label by every importer and producer.Secretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies, Madhav Regmi, said that market monitoring has been intensified and those found indulging in unethical practices would be punished.
 Director General at the Department of Transport Management Sudarshan Dhakal said that presently 40 thousand transport trucks were in operation and a provision has been implemented under which 10-wheel trucks operating from Birgunj to Kathmandu were not allowed to charge more than Rs 23 thousand in fare and that the department was committed to taking action against transport syndicates.
General Manager of Nepal Food Corporation Shiva Hari Shrestha briefed the meeting that rice grain was being transported to 23 remote districts, the corporation presently has 155 thousand quintals rice grain in stock and 90 thousand quintals of paddy worth Rs 300 million has been bought from farmers.
He further said that the corporation planned to purchase 1.5 million quintals of paddy in the current fiscal year, that the government had provided Rs 460 million as transportation subsidies and that the corporation was alert in checking price hike.Deputy General Manager of Salt Trading Corporation Om Siddhi Gubhaju, Director General at the Department of Standards and Metrology Ram Adhar Saha, Director General of the Department of Drug Administration  Gajendra Bahadur Bhuju, Acting  General Manager of Department of Quality Control Binaya Prasad Shrestha, Director General at the Department of Commerce and Supplies Management Narayan Bidari and Director General at the Department of Customs Surya Prasad Acharya, among others, expressed commitment that their respective departments would do everything possible to provide quality and prompt services to the people.
