The Eastern Sugar Mill at Amahibela of Sunsari has paid Rs.300 million to sugarcane farmers until mid February this year.
The mill is expected to pay Rs.400 million by mid -May when it crushes the sugarcane.
Although the government has fixed Rs. 481 per quintal, the mill has only paid Rs.400 per quintal.
Mill Senior Sugarcane Manager Suresh Mehata said this was because price was not fixed this year and the remaining amount will be given later. Sugarcane is farmed in 12,000 bighas of Sunsari and Morang, and it caught disease in 800 bighas. SETOPATI
