Nepal’s second hydropower in sorry state

The Mayunkhola small hydropower project, which was constructed in Gorkhe investing a big amount of money, has been in sorry state of affairs.
The Mayunkhola hydro project that was constructed at the directive of then King Birendra Shah came into operation since 2042 BS.
The hydropower project, second after Farping, is in decrepit condition for sheer negligence on part of the concerned sides.
Almost all machinery parts installed to the project are lying idle. The 64-KW project constructed at the cost of Rs 8.4 million had witnessed technical glitch after a decade its power was linked to central transmission line in Gorkhe VDC in 2052 BS.
Locals demand the need to bring the project into resumption after making necessary maintenance. Locals also hope that the resumption would also help promote tourism as it is one of the ancient hydropower of the country. SETOPATI
