The Violence Minimization and Community Security Strengthening Project is to be launched in Dhanusha district with an objective of minimizing the risk of armed attacks and violence.
The project is going to be launched with the joint initiative of the Ministry of Home Affairs and UNDP. At a meeting of bodies concerned organised here regarding operation of the project, Chief District Officer, Krishna Prasad Dhungana, said that the project is going to be launched with a target to formulate a strategy to build armed violence free society, identifying the measures for the same and implementing it after collaborating with communities. Project Coordinator Bhim Pariyar said the project would minimize risk of armed violence and incidents by formulating and implementing gender-based sensitive community security plan.
Similarly, Project Officer Sanjay Gupta said creating awareness against gender-based violence, involvement of youths in violence and use of small ammunitions is the important aspect under the project. Superintendent of Police, Ganesh Bahadur Thapa, though the problem of smuggling small ammunitions to Nepal due to open border is complex, smuggling of the such weapons has now been controlled in the district due to special alert of security bodies. He also drew the attention towards increasing cases of suicide and drug abuse. Likewise, Budh Narayan Sahani of the National Human Rights Commission, Central Zone, expressed the view that special attention should be paid on human rights aspect in course minimizing cases of armed violence.
Various people including Komal Kant Jha of the Nepali Congress, Ram Govinda Yadav of the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Loktantrik) and Parameshwor Sah of the Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party expressed the view that measures for the minimization of armed violence should be implemented at the initiatives of communities by identifying the most sensitive areas of the district.
