Nepal has called on the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) to assist the reconstruction efforts in the country in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake. It also sought assistance to reduce risks from disasters in the future.
Addressing the 71st session of the Commission in Bangkok, Thailand, on Thursday, National Planning Commission (NPC) member Dr Swarnim Wagle said Nepal wanted support to tackle the post-disaster adversity and rise from the devastation.
Wagle is leading the Nepali Delegation to the regional event.
“But in these hours of crisis, Nepal expects goodwill, support and cooperation from within home and abroad including its neighbors, the international community and the Commission in its recovery efforts and to mitigate risks of disasters in the future. We hope we would emerge a stronger nation that is more unified than ever,” Wagle said.
He informed the Commission that NPC is leading the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) in the country and urged the PDNA to also assist in formulating clear strategies for early recovery and rehabilitation. RSS
