Ex-Maoist combatants involved in Tikapur incident: NHRC

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has said that the former Maoist combatants were involved in the Tikapur incident that saw the killing of eight policemen and a minor.
“It was found from the investigations that ex- combatants of the then CPN (Maoist) were also part of the demonstrators that came from Joshipur VDC,” a press note issued by the rights body on Thursday reads. The note further states that most of the demonstrators comprised of youths.
According to the release, home-made weapons like spears, khukuri and axe were used to kill SSP Laxman Neupane and other personnel.
“The demonstrators are learnt to have attacked the policemen after the security force fired tear gas shells and opened fire,” says the statement. “SSP Neupane was attacked as he was requesting the Tharuhat cadres to refrain from any activities that are likely to disrupt of social harmony.”
NHRC has requested both the government and demonstrators to remain cautious to prevent such incidents from repeating in the future. SETOPATI
