Lawmakers speaking during the Zero Hour of the today’s meeting of the Legislature-Parliament drew the government’s attention on national as well as local problems.
They mentioned problems as increasing cases of violence against women in recent days and alleged that the government has not taken action against the perpetrators of such offences as rape and women harassment.
The lawmakers showed their concern over the increasing commercialization of education sector and the involvement of unscrupulous people in it, even blaming the government employees for inviting aberrations in the sector. They underlined the need of addressing this problem pronto.
Likewise, referring to the loss of lives and property caused by windstorm in different places of the country, the lawmakers rued the government has not paid attention towards providing reliefs to the affected people.
Govt taken to task over quake victims not getting reliefs
They also lashed out at the government over the earthquake victims not getting the relief and the government bodies’ disinterest towards that end. They also alleged of partiality in the distribution of the relief to the earthquake victims.
The MPs demanded that the government should allow the National Cooperatives Development Bank to distribute the relief amount to the victims as the large banks have shown disinterest for the same.
The lawmakers drawing the government’s attention to these issues were Anita Devkota, Anuradha Thapamagar, Amar Singh Pun, Asta Laxmi Shakya, Kamal Prasad Pangeni, Ang Tawa Sherpa, Kanta Bhattarai, Keshav Badal among others.
Lawmakers from Madhes-centric parties boycott House
Before the start of the Zero Hour, lawmaker Jangi Lal Raya announced that the lawmakers belonging to the Federal Alliance and other Madhes-centric parties that are in agitation, were boycotting the Parliament meeting today as the government has neglected the demands raised by the Madhes-centric, indigenous peoples, nationalities and minorities.
Taking time from the Speaker Onsari Gharti, Raya said it is regrettable that the government has not paid any attention towards addressing the demands of the agitating parties.
Immediately after this the lawmakers from the Madhes-centric parties walked out of the assembly hall boycotting the House session.
The lawmakers boycotting the House business belong to the Federal Socialist Forum, the Tarai Madhes Democratic Party, the Sadbhavana Party, the Tarai Madhes Sadbhavana Party, Tharuhat Tarai Party, among other parties. RSS
