Deputy PM Thapa rules out possibility of government change

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa today ruled out any question over the government’s stability and made it clear the government change would not take place anytime soon.
Speaking to journalists at the Biratnagar Airport, DPM Thapa said the rumours and talks of government change were gaining ground in connection to the subject of ‘national consensus’ raised repeatedly by CPN Maoist Centre Chairman, Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
Stating that he and his party was not aware of any knowledge on the three point and gentleman’s agreement between the Prime Minister and the then UCPN (Maoist), DPM Thapa said, “The PM has time and again clarified that such agreement was not reached at the cabinet or at public venues.”
The DPM Thapa further underlined the need for a ‘nationalist democratic coalition government’ in view of the country’s current scenario while stressing on retaining the incumbent government until the next election.
There is no fundamental crisis bringing in the urgent need for changing the government seven to eight months after its formation, Thapa said, adding that such step may raise question over constitution’s worth and future. He urged the Maoist and Congress among other parties to not engage in such a game.
Thapa said the country has received a constitution with much difficulty within this eight years, and warned that continuity of a ‘dirty game of state power’ would send a negative message to the international community and among the country’s people towards which Maoist and Congress among other parties must seriously ruminate.
The budget has arranged for the local body election including other elections, Thapa shared, and called on all parties to remain positive towards holding local body election.
Responding to a journalist’s query, the DPM said he was ready to resign as the coordinator of the government’s dialogue team if he was the reason leading to the disruption of negotiations with the Madhesi Front. RSS
