Forest Minister pledges timber to earthquake victims very soon

Minister for Forests and Soil Conservation Agni Prasad Sapkota has said timber would be provided very soon to the earthquake victims for construction of houses.
Speaking at the face-to-face programme organised by Reporters’ Club Nepal here today, he said the Ministry of Forests is working on providing timber to the earthquake-affected people at 90 per cent concession.
“The house construction of the earthquake victims will not stop for lack of timber,” Minister Sapkota stated.
He also shared in the programme that a committee has been formed under the convenorship of the Chief District Officer for the distribution of timber to the earthquake affected people in the districts. The District Forest Officer is the member of the committee.
Stating that timber worth millions of rupees is imported from other countries, the Minister for Forests and Soil Conservation declared that his ministry is to operate a programme for increasing the timber production by promoting tree planting removing the very old trees and clearing the bushes.
“A scientific forest management will stop the timber import,” he said.
Minister Sapkota also said that the Rs 200 thousand the government is providing free and the interest-free loan of Rs 300 thousand that it is providing to the earthquake survivors would be provided by July 15. He also reminded that agreement has been signed with 14 different banks for the distribution of this amount.
Minister Sapkota, who is also the leader of the CPN Maoist Centre, pointed out the need of unity and collaboration among all the political parties for implementation of the constitution and speeding up the post-earthquake reconstruction works.
He also reiterated that a national unity government is the need of the moment. RSS
