Parliamentarians raise host of issues in Special Hour

The parliamentarians, both from the ruling parties and the opposition, speaking in the Special Hour in the meeting of the Legislature-Parliament here today, have drawn the attention of the government towards host of issues, including providing chemical fertilizers to farmers and grant to quake-survivors.
Referencing the negligence of the contractors and under-quality construction of the projects of national pride such as Sikta Irrigation Project, they urged the government to put in place stringent monitoring mechanism to oversee such projects.
The Sikta Irrigation Project, situated in Banke district, sustained damages due to a massive flooding recently, raising the question on the quality of the work by the contractor has been raised. Lawmakers demanded the induction of competent technicians and honest contractors to ensure quality and timely completion of such projects.
Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Ambar Singh Pun criticized the major ruling party CPN (UML), stating that it was misappropriating budget in the name of various projects and had been feeding its cadres.
CPN (Maoist) Centre’s Lal Bahadur Kunwar batted for the unity among the political parties to bring the new constitution into effect.
Similarly, CPN (UML) lawmaker Kamala Bishwakarma and Nepali Janata Dal’s Haricharan Shah univocally pressed for providing medicines and subsidized grant for the quake-survivors.
Rastriya Janamorcha Nepal’s Meena Pun urged one and all to protest the the act of disruption of Indian Border Police Force several times during the construction of a project to control river in Susta area in Nawalparashi district.
Likewise, Nepal Majdor Kisan Party lawmaker Dilli Prasad Kafle demanded arrest of the contractor fleeing without the completion of construction of road in Jumla section under the Karnali Highway.
Attention was drawn towards the damages caused by flood in various places in Lamjung and the government was urged to build the flood-damaged national infrastructures.
UCPN Maoist Centre Shyam Kumar Shrestha bemoaned that the voices and concerns raised by parliamentarians were being overlooked lately. He also said that the concerned ministers should answer to the concerns raised by the parliamentarians.
NC’s Deepak Khadka demanded for the telephone tower in Sankhuwasabha to render better telecommunications services. He termed the government’s apathy towards arranging an accommodation to the former Head of the State ‘mockery of democracy.’
Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal’s Rajaram Syantang said that the entrepreneurs operating sand and aggravates business in Makawanpur district should not be arrested and detained at a mere consent of the District Development Committee. RSS
