Newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner Dr Ayodhi Prasad Yadav assumed his office today. Dr Yadav, who holds PhD in economics, is the 13th CEC of the country.
Dr Yadav had been serving as Acting Chief Election Commissioner since 28 August 2015.
Three day back, the Legislature-Parliament’s special hearing committee had endorsed the name of Dr Yadav as the Chief Election Commissioner. He is the first CEC from the Madhesi origin.
He took the oath of office and secrecy from Chief Justice Sushila Karki in the presence of President Bidya Devi Bhandari at the Rastrapati Bhawan.
He had entered Election Commission as Election Commissioner in January 11, 2007. During this period the country has held elections of the Constituent Assembly twice.
CEC Dr Yadav has penned books including ‘An Outline of Election System’, ‘Election in Nepal’, ‘CA Election 2008’. Similarly, he has written dozens of research papers on Nepal’s socio-economic and political issues.
Dr Yadav, who spent 24 years in University teaching, was born in Banauli of Praswani VDC in Saptari district in 2011 BS.
I commit to constitution implementation: Dr Yadav
Assuming the office, CEC Dr Yadav said, “My first priority is to help in implementing the constitution.”
According to him, the Election Commission has prepared work plan on how election in local level, provincial level and federal level could be held effectively.
“I won’t let down people’s trust on Election Commission. I surely commit to boosting its image,” he underscored.
According to him, the Election Commission and its staffs have very good knowledge and experience on how election can be held in fair way.
He was welcomed by Election Commissioner Ila Sharma and Secretary Sharada Prasad Trital at the office. Currently, the Election Commission has vacant post for three more election commissioners. RSS
