Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said a report on the loss of lives and property during the Tarai/Madhesi unrest would be prepared soon by the High-Level Commission formed to probe towards that end.
During his meeting with the representatives of Tharu people of Kailali at his official residence Baluwatar on Sunday, the PM pledged to bring out facts concerning the Tarai/Madhes movement and take a decision on issues on the basis of the report.
It may be noted that the government has already constituted a High Level Commission to probe the incidents of human and property losses that occurred in Tarai/Madhes including in Tikapur of Kailali.
Stating that it was really misfortune that security personnel including the SSP were killed in the Tikapur incident, he called on the Tharu leaders to put for their agenda with patience.
The Prime Minister informed the delegation that a process was on the progress to withdraw charges (found false) relating to the movement and provide compensation to those who were wrongly charged.
He said the government was committed to revising the constitution to create a ground for addressing the voices of Tharus, Madhesis and ethnic communities, he said, however, the parliament needed two third majority to ensure amendment to the main law and it was in conversation with the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML).
During the meeting, Tharu leaders called on the government to scrap ‘false charges’ dating back the Tarai Madhes movement, fairly probe the incidents relating to the losses of lives and property and ensure compensation to the victims, according to CPN (Maoist Centre ) lawmaker Santa Kumar Tharu, who is from the proposed province no 5, the Tharu- majority area.
