Most of the lawmakers participating in the ‘special hour’ of today’s meeting of the Legislature-Parliament drew the attention of the government regarding contemporary issues of the country.
On the occasion, Resham Bahadur Baniya suggested to make the road travel safe as well as the distribution of licenses timely, as there was a huge loss of lives and property due to road accidents in recent period.
Rabindra Adhikari said that the government has not wanted to hold local polls as the date for the local polls is still uncertain even after one month of formation of the new government has passed.
Stating that the government should pay its serious attention towards holding all three-level elections as democracy would be established along with constitution implementation, he said that otherwise constitution crisis would be surfaced in the country.
Similarly, Wangdi Sherpa drew the attention of the government for making the District Hospital and telephone cable in Taplejung systematic and demanded to resume power supply while Bikram Thapa briefed the House about the dispute surfaced after the Nepal National Khadgi Society gave the land located at Exhibition Road in the capital to the vegetable market on lease.
Likewise, Gita Chhetri demanded necessary decision to remove uncertainty seen among students and teachers due to change in the spelling of the Nepali language.
Brijesh Kumar Gupta and Narshingh Chaudhary demanded the areas across Kapilvastu district and others that received inadequate rainfall this monsoon to be declared ‘dry area.
The latter also pressed for regularizing the tillers’ rights, stating that the peasants in an agricultural country like ours were deprived of their rights.
Similarly, Parashuram Tamang expressed his qualm over the ban of foreign-made khada (traditional silk scarves presented to guests as welcome and parting gifts) imposed by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation in its subordinate offices.
Tamang argued that the ban on khada widely used among the Buddhist for felicitation was against the spirit of religious secularism ensured by the new constitution. He demanded revision of the directive as the earliest.
Likewise, Anuradha Thapa, in reference to the Banke incident where a husband accuses his spouse of witchery and she dies to mandling and ill-treatment, spoke of the need to reform social practices.
Although the Anti-Witchcraft Act-2015 was already put in place to discourage such ill-practices, Thapa stated that the cases of witchery against women were coming to fore and were on the rise.
Meena Pun was of the opinion that the local bodies’ poll ought to be held within the stipulated time for which she pressed for formulation of new laws for the same.
Referring to increasing road accidents lately, Dr Duman Singh Thapa Chhetri blamed sorry condition of roads, old vehicles and negligence on the part of drivers for such road accidents.
He also asked the government to take measures to control road accidents.
Likewise, Harilal Gyawali demanded an increment in allowance to prisoners languishing in various prisons across the country and a correction in the condition of the prisons, saying that some prisons have been found to be housing prisoners beyond capacity and there not proper sanitation system and prisoners have complained of being deprived of facilities they are entitled to.
On controlling road accidents, Lila Devi Shrestha demanded a repair of roads across the country. RSS
