Ahead of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s scheduled visit to India (September 15-18), a delegation led by Former PM and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli today called on PM Dahal at latter’s office in Singha Durbar.
During the meeting, UML leader Oli submitted a memorandum to PM Dahal and asked him to make national welfare first priority of his visit.
The delegation included UML senior leader Jhala Nath Khanal, leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, Vice Chairmen Bam Dev Gautam and Bhim Rawal and general secretary Ishwor Pokharel.
The memorandum suggests the PM to sign any agreement, during his visit, with India centering national interest while keeping intact Nepal’s independency, sovereignty, geographical integrity and self-dignity.
In return, PM Dahal said suggestions and advices from concerned quarters would be of a great help for his visit and that he would abstain from signing any agreement with India that affects national independence and integrity, PM’s press advisor Gobinda Acharya quoted Dahal as saying.
Dahal also said he would hold a broad consultation with former PMs and his party the CPN (Maoist Centre) two days before his departure to India, Acharya said.
“Nepal wants to establish cordial relations with neighbours, India and China as per the spirit of the United Nations Declarations and the Principles of Panchsheel. UML is clear that such ties should be permanent for the welfare of Nepal on the basis of mutual respect and welfare. Your government (PM) must focus these values,” the memo reads.
Likewise, the note says that various 10 different agreements the previous government reached with China including trade and fuel deal are for the mutual benefit of both Nepal and China. “So the current government should make clear its take on the agreements reached with India and China for the whole benefit of Nepal.” RSS
