At least 31 persons have been killed and a few more are missing after a passenger bus coming to Kathmandu from Rajbiraj plunged into Trishuli river at Gajuri-5, Gharbesi of Dhading district Saturday morning.
The bus (Na 6 Kha 1467) had plunged into Trishuli at 5:30 in the morning unable to take a turn in the serpentine highway. Inspector at the Area Police Office, Gajuri Barun Singh said 19 bodies have been recovered until now and a few others are still missing as the exact number of passengers travelling in the ill-fated bus is not known yet.
Sixteen persons were found injured at the bank of Trishuli river and were admitted at Gajuri Hospital. Two of them have been referred to Kathmandu for treatment.
The bus had picked 15 passengers coming from Rajbiraj in another bus (Na 6 Kha 1466) of the same company from Hetauda. The administration has mobilized divers and cranes in search of the missing persons.
The police have concluded that the accident occurred due to high speed. “The passengers had even urged the driver to not drive so quickly,” inspector Singh said attributing to the injured passengers. The bus driver has absconded. SETOPATI
