Is the Covid-19 pandemic affecting our mental health?

By Shreya Pradhan
The global pandemic has affected everyone to an extent that we have had to change our lifestyles due to this situation. As a student, it is challenging for me to adjust in this situation. Soon, as the lockdown started we had no choice but to take all our classes online. Personally, it was bit difficult for me to adjust at first as I was not used to online learning. I did not use to understand comparatively than physical classes and it was difficult for me to participate in discussions. But slowly I became used to the online platforms and I am finally comfortable to online-learning. The teachers are really focused on student-centered learning and now it is really easy for me to understand their teaching through online classes. It is really important for me to play my part in following guidances from my university in order to adjust to this situation.
Covid-19 has been hard on all of us, and getting used to a new way of living does come with its challenges. I’ve seen my relatives and even my friends suffering from Covid-19 and I really feel bad about it. The worst part is that I cannot meet them when they are having a hard time. But the least thing I can do is provide emotional support to my loved ones and encourage them to talk about what they have been experiencing so that they won’t feel lonely. What I think is that people suffering from Covid-19 should be strong both physically and mentally. It is really important that they look after their health properly. I get to connect with my friends and relatives through social media. I really hope that everything could be normal again. For me, the biggest enemy of this new lifestyle is boredom. It’s hard to do the same things again and again. So, to deal with this problem, I thought of learning something new.
So, I decided to learn some cooking. I learned to cook different kinds of food such as spaghetti, roasted vegetables, chicken curry and so on. I was really happy with myself because I learned something new during this pandemic. I accept that this pandemic time is very tough for all the people but what I believe is that we should always look at the positive side of life. We must see the pandemic as an opportunity to reflect on the ways in which we are interconnected, how supporting each other can bring about great changes. I have faith that the pandemic situation will turn out brighter and everyone can go back to their normal life in the future
But for now, the best thing for everyone is to stay home and stay safe. This pandemic is about asking what do we all want for the future, and what lessons can we take with us for future crises to better care for each other and to think about solidarity. Hoping that this Covid-19 situation can be curbed as soon as possible. We are all in this together. Stay safe guys!
