Nine Killed, Three Missing In Monsoon Disasters

Pokhara/Dang, Sep. 3: Floods and landslides triggered by incessant rains since Wednesday evening in western Nepal’s Pokhara in Kaski, Dang and Tanahun districts claimed lives of nine persons.
Six others sustained injuries while one has gone missing.
According to Disaster Risk Reduction Management Authority (NDRRMA) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, of the total fatalities, five were killed in a Wednesday night landslide at Bhalam, in Pokhara Metropolitan City (PMC)-20 and two at Mulabari, Pokhara-11, in Kaski district.
Two more died and one went missing in the landslide at Ryalechaur, in PMC-20. The Mulabari deceased were identified as Bishnu Saki, 29, and his son Sujan Saki, 8.
Those killed in Ryalechaur were identified as Krishna Kumar Shrestha, 45, and his wife Sanumaya Tamang Shrestha, 35. According to the Police, Krishna Kumar died while undergoing treatment at Manipal Teaching Hospital while his wife died on the spot.
Sim Gurung, Ward Chair of the metropolis, informed that one child had gone missing after a house was buried in a landslip at Mulabari and a person in Kahun, PMC-11 died after the landslide razed his house.
Shrestha’s nine-year-old son Raj Kumar Shrestha sustained injuries and has been admitted to Manipal Teaching Hospital while his three-year-old son Santosh Shrestha has gone missing.
Moreover, 42-year-old Lakshya Nepali of Bhanjyang Namuna Tole in PMC-10 was killed after his house, made of blocks, got buried in the landslide. “Even though he was rescued and rushed to hospital, he could not be saved,” said DSP Subash Hamal, adding that the remaining three members of Nepali’s family were successfully rescued.
DSP Hamal, spokesperson for Kaski Police Office, said that a search operation was underway to find the missing.
Likewise, local Kul Prasad Bastola’s house in Dhansar was completely destroyed in the landslide that took place in Bhalam, PMC-20. Krishna Kumar Poudel’s house and Chitra Bahadur Chhetri’s cowshed also incurred damage in the landslide, informed spokesperson Hamal.
The Police informed that Ekdev Timilsina, his wife Ritu Timilsina, and son Girish Timilsina were injured in a landslide that hit Baseri of Pokhara-11 on Wednesday night.
A total of eight houses in Phulbari, PMC-11, are at risk of being washed away by rain-induced disasters.
Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor of PMC Manju Devi Gurung visited the landslide-affected areas on Thursday morning to receive the field-based report. Visiting Ryalechaur, Phulbari, and Nadipur, the Deputy Mayor informed that the PMC would provide all relief to the landslide victims.
Likewise, at least four persons were killed after a flash flood swept away a car in Ghorahi, Dang.
The swollen Sisne Stream in Ghorahi-Lamahi road section of Gorahi Sub-Metropolitan City-4 had swept away a car (Province 03-01-024 Cha 4440) on Wednesday night.
According to DSP Mukunda Prasad Rijal, Dang Police Office spokesperson, the deceased were identified as Sushila Shrestha, 32, and Ritamaya Pun, 40, of Ghorahi -13 and Radha Shrestha Kunwar, 30, and Bimala KC, 42, of Ghorahi-14. Bodies of the deceased were found at Beluwa, Ghorahi-3 on Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, driver Nara Bahadur Pun, who was successfully rescued, has sustained some injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Rapti Academy of Health Sciences. Rising Nepal
