Kathmandu, June 21: The monsoon is likely to spread across the country within this week. Presently, the monsoon is somewhat spread over Province 1, Madhesh, Lumbini, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces and has a general effect on the monsoon winds in those provinces.
According to Hira Bhattarai, a meteorologist at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), Meteorological Forecasting Division, the monsoon is stuck in Gandaki Province and it might take a few days to spread all over.
At present, the monsoon winds have a moderate effect in Province 1, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces. The remaining parts of the country are affected by local winds, westerly winds, and east-west low-pressure lines in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar of India, Bhattarai said.
There is a normal cloud cover across the country as the monsoon could not become active, he said. The present situation will remain for another two to three days, he added.
According to the DHM, there is a risk of erosion, landslides, and debris flow in the hilly areas of Province 1, Madhesh, Lumbini, Karnali Provinces, and some parts of Sudhur Pashim Province.
In addition, DHM asked everyone to take necessary precautions as the water level in rivers and streams may rise and daily life and transportation area may be affected.
