Kathmandu, Nepal – A meeting of top leaders of the Nepali Congress (NC) that held to chart out party’s view on state restructuring after the political parties engaged in a heated dispute on the issue has reached to a conclusion sticking to the seven provinces.
All the leaders attending the meeting that took place at Constituent Assembly (CA) building, New Baneswor, ruled out the act of demarcating provinces on the basis of ethnicity, said NC senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba.
‘Carving out seven states is the bottom line of our party. We are ready to show flexibility if other party would come up with practical proposal in this regard’, leader Deuba said.
Refuting the allegation that the consensus was not made due to NC’s stance, Deuba reiterated the party’s view that state restructuring could not take place on the ethnic line.
The meeting stressed the need to move ahead with flexibility on the issue of restructuring state based on identity.
NC had presented its official view of seven provinces at the meeting of major political parties on Friday.
On the occasion, NC President Sushil Koirala briefed the discussions held with three major political parties along with United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF).
