KATHMANDU – CPN UML has agreed on 11-province model with an authority to the provinces themselves to name the province.
A parliamentary party meeting of the party held at Singhadurbar on Wednesday agreed to adopt a 7 to 11 province model. However, “UML will put efforts to cater consensus on 7 to 8 province model,” said UML General Secretary Yuvraj Gyanwali.
“But we are also open for 11 province model if the authority of naming the province is given to the province itself,” Gyanwali added.
Lets the name the province as 1, 2, 3 for the time being and provide the authority to name the provinces to the provinces themselves said another leader Bharat Mohan Adhikari.
Earlier the Maoists have proposed to form 11 provinces on the basis of ethnicity and geographical viability. Similarly the party has decided not to support a directly elected Presidential system. Earlier the party has agreed to adopt a mixed form of governance with divided executive powers between the PM and President.
However it has traced back to its earlier demand for a directly elected Prime Ministerial model. RSS
