Maoist slams apex court decision, warns agitation

KATHMANDU – A day after the apex court capped the Maoist-led government’s initiative to extend the term of the Constituent Assembly’s by three months, the party has warned to rock the streets.

The Standing Committee of the party has concluded that it will launch stern agitation by aligning with other similar sides if the ethnic identity included federalism in not drafted or if the CA is dissolved without promulgating the constitution.

The meeting has also picked up Joint Democratic Madheshi Front, Broader Madheshi Front, Nepal Federaton of Indigenous Nationalities among others, as its possible partners for launching the strike.

Terming the apex court’s verdict as ‘political biased’, has also ruled out to accept it. It has claimed that the apex court verdict has also rendered the interim constitution meaningless and thereby jeopardized efforts to promulgate the new constitution.

While stating that the party is ready to bargain with its 14 state model and agree on 10 state model, the party has ruled out the possibility to drop its demand for ethnic identity based federal states.

It has said that it will consider adopting multiple basis for naming the states and has also hinted at the possibility to join other identities with ethnicity.
