Indian walks free after 30 years in Pakistani jail‎

Lahore – An Indian man has been freed after spending more than three decades in a Pakistani prison for spying.

Surjeet Singh walked over the Wagah border crossing Thursday between Pakistan and India into Punjab state, where he was reunited with his family.

Singh spent time in a prison in the Pakistani city of Lahore after being arrested on charges of espionage. He served his life sentence.

Pakistani media originally reported the person being released was Sarabjit Singh, a high-profile prisoner who has spent more than two decades on death row after being convicted for his role in a string of bombings in Pakistan.

Sarabjit Singh’s family has argued he is innocent and that he crossed the Pakistani border by mistake.
