Hishila Yami fears Gyanendra’s return, calls parties for talks

KATHMANDU – Hishila Yami, spouse of Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai and politburo member of UCPN (Maoist), has expressed fear that deposed King Gyanendra Shah could return to the throne.

Stating that the parliamentary party system was failing to meet people’s expectation, Yami warned that Gyanendra will return if the present political course is not corrected.

Speaking at the face to face program organized by the Reporters Club Nepal on Tuesday, Yami said “parliamentary system is failing. Gyanendra will return if it fails.”

Her statement comes some days after Gyanendra hinted towards monarchy’s return, if people desired so.

“Gyanendra has already cautioned political parties, and he would return if they don’t heed to the warning,” said Yami accusing Nepali Congress and CPN UML of centering on holding power by giving up their responsibilities to resolve political impasse.

She said that the PM was ready to resign if parties reached a package deal by including issues related to constitution writing, government formation and peace process.

” PM Bhattarai was ready to resign on May 28. He will resign from the post within a minute after political parties reach a package deal,” said Yami at the program presided by Reporters Club President Rishi Dhamala.

She defended accusations against PM Bhattarai and claimed that the present government which has completed ’90 percent of tasks related to peace process and 75 percent of tasks related to constitution writing, would like to see both tasks completed.”

Yami accused Congress and UML of attempting to bring rifts between Bhattarai and UCPN Maoist Chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal by participating in the meeting called by the latter and boycotting meeting called by Bhattarai.

She claimed that the government will bring the full budget even if other political parties don’t concede to the government’s plan.
