KATHMANDU – The development of sports was not satisfactory because of the longtime Panchayat system and decade-long Maoist insurgency in Nepal.
At an interaction on NC’s role in development of sports organized by the Central Sports Department of the party in the capital on Thursday, President Koirala said all should respect the success of the sportspersons.
On a different note, President Koirala said it was unconstitutional to fix the election date without building consensus.
The NC is ready to form a national consensus government through dialogue and cooperation, he said, warning of vigorous people’s movement against this government if it obstructed national consensus.
The national consensus government would not only protect democracy, but also promotes other sectors including the sport.
On the occasion, Vice-President of the Party, Ram Chandra Paudel pointed out the need of providing trainings to the players as per the need.
Speaking about current politics, he said present government was the major obstruction to the national consensus.
Similarly, General Secretary Prakash Man Singh said all sectors need to extend support for the infrastructure building for sports in the country.
Chief of the Sports Department, Dhanaraj Gurung said his party would not politicize sports but support and develop this sector with priority.
