KATHMANDU – Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai addressed the nation today on the occasion of the completion of one years of his term in office.
In his address to the nation delivered from the National Planning Commission (NPC) meeting hall, the prime minister described his one year at the helm of the government as successful.
He said that although he was not successful to carry out works as to the expectations of the people due to the political transition in the country, overall, he had worked in favour of the country and the people.
The prime minister mentioned that the peace process has almost concluded in the one year of his term in office and the task of constitution writing could not be completed as the political parties could not reach understanding.
“Although the Constituent Assembly automatically dissolved in accordance with the decision of the Supreme Court, people’s desire to have the constitution formulated by the Constituent Assembly alone should be fulfilled,” he stressed.
Noting that there was no alternative to consensus and collaboration among the political parties, Prime Minister Bhattarai stressed that all the political parties should work keeping national interest at the centre by giving up vested interest for this.
In nearly about hour-long address, he further said, “No one could move ahead with prejudiced notion. We could take the nation ahead if only our actions are carried out keeping people in the centre.”
Saying that some political parties are trying to underestimate his stay in the government on the basis of bias feelings, he claimed that more important and far-reaching works have been accomplished during his tenure.
Among the major works performed during the period are signing Memorandum of Understanding for West Seti hydropower project, preliminary works on Pokhara airport construction, announcement of investment year and signing of BIPPA with India to bring in foreign investment for the development of the country.
