Police-teachers leave 60 injured in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU – At least 60 teachers were injured in a clash that ensued after the police used force against the agitating teachers while the latter were picketing the Ministry of Education at Keshar Mahal demanding service and facilities.

 

    The clash took place as teachers were staging sit in at the Ministry by demanding their social security including salary hike, implementation of previous agreements signed between the Teachers Struggle Committee and the Ministry.

    Eight teachers including Kamalesh Kushbaha, Chandrika Sah, Shanti Sharma and Kalpana Kharel were critically injured in the clash. The critically injured are receiving treatment at the Bir Hospital. Other teachers were also injured in the clash.


    Chairman of Nepal Educational Republican Forum, Gunaraj Lohani, condemned the police suppression on teachers in their peaceful demonstration. RSS
