The police on Tuesday cracked down on the activists affiliated to the Association of Families of the Disappeared, while they were staging a sit-in in front of the Prime Minsiters residence in Baluwatar.
The sit-in was being staged to protest against the governments decision to promote Col Raju Basnet to Briagdier General.
Col Basnet has been accused of violating human rights and is thought to be responsible for the disappearance of some Maoist guerillas from Bhairavnath Battalion in the capital.
Though the charges against him remained untested due to lack of Truth and Reconciliation Commission, national and international human rights activist have slammed the government’s decision to promote Basnet without formally trying him for the charges .
Today’s sit was backed by the CPN Maoist and the clashed between the protestors and police left 6 protestors seriously injured.
