Janajati leaders form Social Democratic Party

KATHMANDU, DEC 30 – Janajati activists announced its new party Socialist Democratic Party, a month after the establishment of Ashok Rai-led Federal Socialist Party on Sunday.

Janajati leaders formed the new party after it split with Rai’s faction at the last hour even after agreeing in principle to form the party under Rai’s leadership.

The leaders announced their new party amid a programme in Chabahil in the Capital this morning.

The new party has seven-member chairmanship including Chaitanya Subba, Kumar Rai, Bal Kumari Budamagar, Pasang Sherpa, Dalmardan Karki, Nima Gyanzen Lhyolmo and Jyoti Dunuwar.

Earlier, Rai, along with other disgruntled leaders, deserted the UML after the party stuck to its stance of dividing the country into seven federal states and adopt multi-identity federalism. However, the disgruntled leaders were claiming that such model of federalism can not address the oppression faced by indigenous and marginalized communities.
