KATHMANDU, AUG 06 – A Tibetan activist died from self-immolation here in Bouddha, on Tuesday morning.
The identification of the deceased is yet to be ascertained. According to police, the activist was a physically disabled person. He set himself on fire near a passage at Boudhanath Stupa.
Police and residents put out the flames with fire extinguishers and rushed him to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) in Maharajgunj.
He was declared dead soon after he was brought for the treatment in the hospital in critical condition with much of his body burned.
Meanwhile, police have been investigating the incident.
More than 100 Tibetans in their ancestral homeland or nearby Chinese regions have self-immolated since 2011 to protest Chinese rule or to call for their spiritual leader the Dalai Lama to return to Tibet. China says he is inciting the protests, which he denies.
