Maoist-led alliance unveils agitation programs

The 30-party alliance led by the UCPN (Maoist) on Thursday unveiled nationwide protest programs and appointed a central spokesperson for the same.
In a meeting held at the parliamentary party office of the UCPN (Maoist), the leaders of the alliance called for an extensive meeting of the cadres in 35 major locations of the country on February 14, which will be addressed by its senior leaders.
Prem Bahadur Singh, spokesperson of the alliance, said that UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is scheduled to address the meeting in Kathmandu while senior leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai and Vice-Chairman Narayankaji Shrestha will address the gathering in Nepalgunj and Jhapa respectively.
Likewise, Upendra Yadav, chairman of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Nepal, will address the mass meeting in Biratnagar, while Bijaya Kumar Gachchadar, chairman of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Democratic) will address the Rajbiraj meeting. Similarly, chairman of Terai Madhesh Loktantrik Party, Mahantha Thakur will address the gathering in Bhairahawa.
Meanwhile, Ashok Rai, chairman of the Federal Socialist Party, is scheduled to address the meeting in Khotang.
Similarly, Sadbhawana Party Chairman Rajendra Mahato is expected to deliver a speech at the meeting in Janakpur while the co-chair of the same party Laxmanlal Karna will address the activists in Bara.
In Kaski, UCPN (Maoist) Secretary Barshaman Pun will adress the cadres’ gathering, while the party’s Standing Committee member, Agni Sapkota, will address the gathering in Chitwan.
In addition to the mass meeting, the programs announced by the alliance include holding mass mobilization across the country on February 21, and displaying black flags on February 12.
The opposition leaders have alleged the ruling parties, Nepali Congress and CPN (UML), of forcing them to launch the agitation by abandoning the consensus process to resolve the disputed issues of the new constitution.
Thursday’s meeting also decided to raise Rs 20,000 each from the lawmakers associated with the alliance in order to finance the protest programs, spokesperson Singh said. Singh further said that the meeting stressed that the protests would peacefully exert pressure on the ruling parties to create an amiable environment to draft the constitution on the basis of consensus.
Call by the ruling parties for negotiations had no meaning unless they followed the past agreements and pacts to the letter, the meeting concluded. RSS
