Local administration has deployed Nepal Army in Mahottari in view of increasing unrest in the district. A meeting of the security forces and local administration authorities headed by Chief District Officer Deepak Kafle on Thursday morning decided to deploy the Army.
Three protesters died on Wednesday when police opened fire during the clash with the demonstrators. Further agitated by the deaths, the demonstrators set fire on Area Police Station at Babala and police beats at Parsapataili, Manara and Aurahi. Over six police personnel were injured in the tussle that ensued as demonstrators set fire at the police station in Babala.
As the demonstrators increasingly targeted police stations, the Area Police Stations in Babala and Loharpati were shifted to Ramgopalpur. Likewise, Manara beat was shited to Siswakati while several others to district headquarter Jaleshwor.
To contain the increasing tension, the local administration imposed curfew from 8 pm on Wednesday. Security forces including Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nepal Army have been deployed in huge numbers in the streets.
The shutdown imposed by the United Democratic Mahdesi Front (UDMF) against the constitution drafting process has continued for nearly a month in the Terai districts. UDMF cadres have staged demonstrations on a regular basis, protesting, among others, the proposed seven provinces. – SETOPATI
