An unidentified group fatally shot local youth and President of Nepal Tarun Dal of constituency-1, Rajesh Sen in Jitpur of Banganga Municipality-10 on Thursday evening. Another NC cadre Amrit KC sustained minor injuries.
Two individuals who came on a red motorbike shot Sen while he was attending a tribute ceremony for late Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala. One of the riders got off the bike and fired four rounds of fire at Sen who was on the stage set for the ceremony at around 5:25 pm, local eyewitnesses said.
Sen, 37, sustained serious injuries to his chest, and was rushed to Lumbini Zonal Hospital in Butwal and died in course of treatment, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dilliraj Bista.
Lawmakers from Kapilvastu and NC have condemned the incident and demanded that the government book the guilty.
Meanwhile, cadres of Nepal Tarun Dal and Nepal Students Union and locals have staged demonstration demanding action against the guilty and shut down Taulihawa Badganga, Gajehada and Odari areas of Kapilvastu. SETOPATI
