The number of wild buffaloes in the Koshi Tapu Wildlife Reserve has grown by 105 in the last two years.
A census carried out two years ago counted the wild buffaloes at 327 which grew to 432 this year.
This is the first time that such a large number of buffaloes have increased.
The Department of Forest and Koshi Tappu Reserve jointly carried out the census from April 10 to 12.
The number of female wild buffaloes is in particular on the rise, said Forest Department Director General, Phanindra Kharel.
The Reserve has been counting the number of wild buffaloes in every two to four years. The increment rate is 7 to 27 per cent on an annual basis, according to the Wildlife Reserve. RSS
