Kathmandu, June 21: Despite the gloomy weather, people from Kathmandu have observed the annual solar eclipse today.
The eclipse had begun from 10:54 AM and will be lasting till 2:23 PM.
According to BP Koirala Memorial Planetarium and Observatory Science Museum Development Committee the solar eclipse would start from 10:54 AM in Kathmandu, Mahendranagar, Kanchanpur, from 10:52 AM in Pokhara, 10: 56 AM in Janakpur and 11:52 AM in Bhadrapur, Jhapa.
According to Dr Sanat Kumar Sharma, executive director of the committee, 93 per cent obscuration of sun could be seen from Kalapani and Limpiyadhura region of Nepal.
Likewise, the obscuration would be 82 per cent from Kathmandu and Janakpur, 88 per cent from Pokhara, 81 per cent from Bhadrapur, Jhapa and 93 per cent from Mahendranagar, Kanchanpur.
According to Dr Sharma, watching the eclipse through naked eyes, binoculars or telescope could damage the eyes.
“However, there is no scientific evidence as to effect of the sun rays during the eclipse on human body,” added Dr Sharma. Rising Nepal
