Inflation Drops To 2.7% In Seven Months

Kathmandu, Mar. 17 : The consumer price inflation has dropped significantly in the first seven months of the current fiscal year 2020/21.
According to the current macroeconomic and financial report published by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Tuesday, the year-on-year (y-o-y) consumer price inflation stood at 2.70 per cent in the first seven months of 2020/21 compared to 6.87 per cent a year ago.
Food and beverage inflation stood at 3.02 per cent whereas non-food and service inflation stood at 2.44 per cent during the review period.
The price of fruit, ghee and oil, pulses and legumes and tobacco products sub-groups rose by 18.84 per cent, 18.14 per cent, 10.41 per cent and 10.41 per cent respectively on y-o-y basis.
Likewise, the Kathmandu Valley, Terai, Hill and Mountain witnessed 2.12 per cent, 2.78 per cent, 3.30 per cent and 2.05 per cent inflation respectively.
These regions had witnessed 7.58 per cent, 7.29 per cent, 5.46 per cent and 5.28 per cent inflation respectively a year ago.
The y-o-y wholesale price inflation stood at 6.12 per cent in the review month compared to 7.13 per cent a year ago.
The y-o-y wholesale price of consumption goods, intermediate goods and capital goods increased by 8.41 per cent, 5.33 per cent and 3.39 per cent respectively.
The wholesale price of construction materials has increased by 6.25 per cent in the review month.
The y-o-y salary and wage rate index increased by 1.77 per cent in the review month. Such growth rate was 7.51 per cent a year ago.
In the review month, wage rate index increased by 2.27 per cent during the review period. Rising Nepal
